Blanche's life was rich with blessings of faith, family, and friendships. She grew up on a farm in Cuba, Kansas where she learned the value of hard work. She graduated high school as class valedictorian and after high school, she earned a teaching certificate and taught from 1942 – 1945 in a one room schoolhouse. One of her students was her younger sister, Marjorie. Blanche met her husband, Edward, at a dance in Cuba, Kansas. Blanche loved to dance, especially to a lively Czechoslovakian polka. She was proud of her Czech ancestry. Blanche and Edward married in 1946 and together had four children, Shirley, Coleen, David, and Lisa. The family farmed for about ten years in Aurora, Kansas before Edward began a plumbing business and the family moved to Junction City, Kansas. Blanche worked at Sears and Roebuck catalog store in the Credit Department in Junction City, Kansas, before applying for a job with the Social Security Administration (SSA). After she was hired, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1965 where she began a twenty year career with the SSA. Edward passed away in 1973. Blanche retired from the SSA in 1985 and moved to a lake community to enjoy gardening, fishing, and the outdoors. Blanche met Jerry Stanton in 1984 during a ballroom dance lesson. They married in 1987 and made Liberty, Missouri home for twenty years. Blanche and Jerry went dancing each week for many years. And both were very competitive bridge players. They were able to make wonderful memories traveling to many different states. Jerry passed away in 2007. Blanche was a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with cancer in 1984 but beat it and lived cancer free for thirty-two more years. Blanche became a Christian in her twenties, and steadfastly shared her Christian faith with her children and others. She was proud to have been a charter member of Northland Christian Church. Blanche loved to grow vegetables and flowers, and enjoyed sharing the produce with family, friends, and often made flower bouquets to be used in the church sanctuary. Many yards in the metro area have plants or bulbs that were shared by Blanche. Left to honor Blanche and remember her love are her four children, daughters, Shirley (Michael) Pitts of Kansas City, MO, Coleen (John) Roberts of Roseburg, Oregon, Lisa Patterson of Kansas City, MO; son, David A. (fiancé, Cheryl Smith) Ferron of Kansas City, MO; brother, Alfred Havel Jr. ; and sister, Viola Hedstrom, both of Belleville, Kansas; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sam, Amanda, Par, Blaine, David Charles, and Sean; and thirteen great grandchildren, Mirek, Ari, Abigail, Isaac, Anna, Parker, Camden, Katy, Emerson, Harper, Hattie, Evan, and Colin.
