Beverly Joan (Reese) Sharp was born on October 26, 1951 in Sedalia, MO to Cora Faye and George Reese, and re-joined her Creator on January 22, 2022 at home in Overland Park, KS. Bev was a proud alumna of Smith-Cotton High School (We are Great, We are Fine, We are Seniors '69!). She was an avid traveler, skilled seamstress and baker, practical parent, doting grandma, fun-loving friend, bubble aficionado, and self-proclaimed National Park Geek. Beverly moved to Garden City, KS in 1977 where she began a long career of volunteering at the First United Methodist Church, on committees, chancel choir, potlucks, bell choir fundraisers, circle groups, and more potlucks. She spent 28 years working in the Finney County Treasurer's Office, but perfected the "side hustle" before it was a thing… If you needed something hemmed, a blouse or suit made, formal attire torn apart and put back together, or to learn how to sew in Finney County, you called "the redhead in the Treasurer's Office". When your party needed a little extra umph, Bev's Baking to the rescue. Her thick, soft, iced sugar cookies and carrot cakes were legendary. She narrowly avoided a restraining order from Neil Diamond, but it wasn't for lack of trying! Attending more Neil concerts than we can count (though she did), she eagerly awaited his imminent proposal, and was slightly mollified when he married a redhead. In 2011, she moved to Kansas City to perfect the arts of retirement and grandmothering, often combining both by traveling to see her grandsons and taking her granddaughter along. She joined Meetup groups, hosted parties, and planned outings, growing her circle of friends and reconnecting with her adored Sedalia crew. She was able to find "volunteer" jobs shopping estate sales and listening to live music by helping La Sertoma and the JCCC Vol-Stars. Beverly's only bucket list was to visit as many National Parks as possible. Not picking one to see over another, just taking every opportunity to go to any of them. Chasing - as her son-in-law, Dan called them - "half dead trees" across the country as the seasons changed was a hallmark of her adventures. She walked across Vermont, enjoyed rocking chairs on cabin porches overlooking the Smoky Mountains and dozens of other vistas, bicycled through the Ozarks, trained across the western US, and made hundreds of friends along the way. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Sharp (Dan Bruyn), son, Brian, granddaughter, Anna Bruyn, grandsons, Alex and Coran Sharp, her brother, Bob Reese of Harrison, AR, and six Sharp and Reese nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. Service A "LDYNRED"-themed memorial service (please wear red) will be held on Saturday, Apr 2, 2022at 4:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village, KS.
