Obituary

October 17, 1933 - August 8, 2026

Betty Lou (Verlin) Blomberg, 92, died on August 8, 2026, at Overland Park Regional

Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

She was born on October 17, 1933, in Neosho Rapids, Kansas, in a home built by her

grandfather Edward. It is still occupied today. Her parents were Raymond and Fern

(Robinson) Verlin. In 1951, Betty graduated from Lebo High School. There were only

seventeen people in her class. Betty married Merlyn Blomberg (aka Spud) in Lebo on

March 14, 1953. They shared sixty-five happy years as companions, parents, and

business partners. Betty was a caring mother to their three children and a devoted

support for Merlyn throughout his successful career as a salesman. When they

relocated to Overland Park, Kansas, from Eagan, Minnesota, they started a home-based

retail business called B & S Distributing selling watches, bands, and batteries

throughout the Midwest.

Betty was well known for her wit, sense of loyalty, gift for telling delightful stories, and

remembering loved ones’ birthdays. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family in her

beautifully decorated home, which was filled with various collections of antiques that she

and Merlyn gathered throughout the years. Another favorite pastime was being an

enthusiastic sports fan cheering on the KU Jayhawks basketball, KC Royals baseball,

and KC Chiefs football teams.

They have three surviving children: Janice, Niceville, Florida; Sondra, Tampa, Florida;

and Gregory, Eagan, Minnesota. Betty has a surviving sister, Judy Ross, niece Leisa

(Zoe) Albers, nephew Brent (Brenda) Pierce, sister-in-law Georgene (Mechtley) Verlin,

niece Deborah (Don) Schaulis, niece Chris (Rob) Ross, sister-in-law Verla Howard,

nephew Curt (Dea) Carroll, niece Nanci (Rod) Pratt, and cousins Eddie Verlin, Leona

Boosinger, Mary Lou DeLong, Linda Combs, and DeEtta Danner. She was preceded in

death by both of her parents, brothers Donald, Evertt, Harlan, and Vic, and husband

Merlyn Blomberg.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 22 nd at 11 am at the Valley Community
