Bertha Nadine Baker, 81, went home on the morning of August 9, 2014. She was born May 11, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Bob, who affectionately called her "Charlie" and believed she had the most beautiful legs in the world. Her eldest son, David, and her daughter Tammy. Her mother, Margaret Lybarger, brother Carl Lybarger and sisters Nancy Maxwell and Barbara Allen. She leaves behind one sister, Leona Gibson of Coos Bay, Oregon. Sister in law, Peggy Lybarger of Springfield, Missouri. Her children, Connie Thaxton of Springfield, Missouri, Sheri Baker of Kansas City, Kansas, Tim Baker (Trish) of Mission, Kansas, Nancy Dressler (Tom) of Mission, Kansas and Sandy Peters (Jim) of Merriam, Kansas. Her grandchildren, Amanda, Angel, Heather and Jimmie. Great grandchildren, Savannah, Cheyanne, Sierra, Delano and Kara. Great, great granddaughter, Daniella. She was known for her faith in her creator and her spirit of philanthropy. Her knowledge and love of gardening was evidenced by her enormous gardens each year and canning season. She enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, sewing/crocheting, painting birds and flowers, writing, traveling and her many close friendships over the years although we're not sure where she found the time doing all that laundry! She enjoyed playing Pinochle and Canasta. She loved all things Greece, the sea and had a taste for good wine, even making wine from grapes she had grown herself. She was an avid reader and believed in educating yourself. She had fun in being witty and philosophical when she deemed the occasion called for it which was quite often. In recent years she looked forward to playing games (She especially enjoyed Trivial Pursuit with her daughter, Nancy) and spending time with her great grandchildren and great, great granddaughter. She had a lifelong heart for the Jewish community and was adamant in the defense of Israel. She not only read but studied her Bible and continued on her "faith journey". She was an absolute joy to be around in her last days with her cute smile and sense of humor despite being sick. She gave us a gift and left us with her laughter. In according to her wishes, her life will be celebrated with a private memorial by her children with champagne and roses. Proverbs 31:31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
