Barbara Ann Finke, affectionately known as Barb, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2024. She was born on March 26, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Barb lived a vibrant life filled with laughter, love, and dedication to education.
Barb spent many years as an Elementary School teacher in McCook, Omaha, and Lincoln, Nebraska. Her passion for teaching touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. Beyond the classroom, Barb's interests included cheering for University of Nebraska sports, supporting the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, boating, and cherishing fun moments with her husband and friends.
A proud member of the Nebraska Education Association, Barb pursued her education with determination, earning a BS in Elementary Education and a MS in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
Barb is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvern Finke, as well as her parents, Iris and Harold Johnson and her brother-in-law Mel Bohn. She is survived by her sisters Pam Chandler (Chan) of Overland Park, KS, and Vicki Bohn of Omaha, NE, niece Beth Miller, nephews Chip Chandler, Eric Bohn, and Adam Bohn, and her loyal companion, Buddy, a spirited beagle.
A graveside Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walton, NE. In honor of Barb's favorite color, pink, attendees are encouraged to wear something pink. The service will be a time to celebrate Barb's life through stories and anecdotes, followed by light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara's memory to Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, MO, or the dog rescue or shelter of your choice. Barb's spirit and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
