Obituary

Annelie Glimka, daughter of Horst and Ella Glimka, passed away peacefully on February 1, at 8:38 pm. Annelie was born in Drethem, Germany on April 13, 1949 and moved to Oregon, Missouri with her parents and younger brother in 1955, at the age of 6. After growing up in Oregon, Missouri, she attended Tarkio College. She did a variety of jobs over the years, but her passion was clearly for teaching, spending several years teaching seventh grade at Immaculate Conception School in Old Monroe, Missouri and finishing her teaching career at Sherwood Middle School, retiring in 2014. Her biggest strength was in connecting with her students, believing in them and giving them the opportunity to thrive in her classroom. She was also extremely proud of her two girls and their families and loved sharing stories about them with her friends. Annelie is survived by her two daughters, Carol (Scott) Clifford, Ann (Kevin) Newton, her five grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick, and Daniel Clifford and Avery-Grace and Emelia-Jane Newton, her siblings Hans (Ethel) Glimka, Rosemarie Gretzinger, and Charles (Crystal) Glimka, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. A celebration of Annelie's life will be held in the multipurpose room at the Sherwood School District in Creighton, Missouri on February 15, starting at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made to Kansas City Hospice House or to Annelie's "Noble" Cause. Noble was a favorite of Annelie's. He is a professional therapy dog working in the Sherwood School District with a philosophy of life just like hers. Together they have shared a heart for students that need extra emotional support and love. This fund will help provide students with special opportunities they might not otherwise have. Whereas Noble will continue to offer emotional support, Annelie will also be able to continue her support and love through this fund.
