Allene M. Gantz, 93, died Saturday August 27th at Rose Estates in Overland Park, Kansas. Allene was born May 3, 1929 on her family farm in Plevna, KS to George and Alvina (Freie) Haas. She graduated from Plevna High School in 1947. She moved to metropolitan Kansas City in the late 1960s. She began her career in accounting at Rosedale State Bank and retired from Santa Fe Railway in Topeka. Simultaneously, over more than 30 years, she also worked part-time at Sears. She was an avid traveler - chronicling her European adventures in beautifully detailed scrap books - enjoyed reading and loved attending the local dinner theater. She was a devoted Jayhawk basketball fan who forever lamented Roy Williams departure to coach at UNC. Allene was an exceptional cook, her pies and cinnamon rolls were legendary. Allene is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marcine Scharnhorst, her son Jeffrey Gantz, her daughter-in-law Celeste Gantz and her grandson Curtis Gantz. She is survived by her brother Herbert Haas; her son Dwight (Rebecca Schechter) Gantz and her daughter Janet (David) Hunke. Allene had eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
