Obituary

Allan Alvin Alft, 86, took his final journey on January 18, 2019. He passed peacefully at home after a blessed week of quality time visiting with his children, grandchildren, and some of his great grandchildren. He was able to share stories, laughs, intimate moments, and express final farewells to each person he loved. Born outside of Tigerton, Wisconsin in Waupaca County to Alvin and Edna Alft on July 23, 1932. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service he worked as a diesel mechanic, which led him to Iron Mountain, Michigan where he met his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia Perry. Following his interest of aviation he became a corporate pilot for Lippert Industries. Later, he worked for Western and Southern Life as a District Manager in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he retired. He was a member of Charity Zeredatha Lodge and a Shriner. The last part of his career brought out the true entrepreneur in him; he was the owner of a JT's General Store franchise. His kind, sweet nature was ever present with all who came in contact with him. He and his wife Patt spent their retirement years traveling across the US in their fifth wheel, as well as spending time in both Brownsville, TX and Edwardsville, KS. They enjoyed spending quality time with other Winter Texans, playing cards, surf fishing, golfing, bowling and dancing. Throughout his life he had a great love for the outdoors including: hunting, fishing, and gardening. Late in life he discovered a hidden talent for oil painting, the focus of his art was the great outdoors. As a lifelong Christian he joyfully served Jesus through ministries at Shepard of the Valley in Brownsville, TX, Fishers of Men in Port Isabel, TX and most recently Trinity Lutheran Church of Shawnee, KS. He is survived by his wife Patt, his six children; Mark (Jean), of Wichita, KS, Bryan of Lewisville, TX, Nadine Hopp (Lyle) of Marshall, TX, Edwin (Jane) of Kansas City, KS, Elise Hebert (Joel) of Shawnee, KS, Rochelle Cannon (Jason) of Shawnee, KS, and 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, a sister Dona Carlson of Nixa, MO, and many nieces and nephews. Service: A memorial will be held later this spring at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Down Syndrome Guild of Kansas City or Metro Lutheran Ministries of Kansas City, Missouri.
