Alexis (née Kuhlthau) Licata, age 70, died peacefully in her sleep from a brief, acute illness on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her home in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born on October 20, 1953.

A native of Warren, New Jersey, Alexis lived in Overland Park for the last 30 years. Alexis had a preternatural talent for the visual arts, with the ability to conceptualize, and then draw with pen & ink, and not make a mistake! She attended Montclair State College in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, then completed her undergraduate degree in Dayton, Ohio, having earned her B.A. in Fine Arts.

Alexis' career in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster proved to be a good match for her, giving her agile mind a workout in negotiations and settlement. She also enjoyed actual workouts, calling herself a "gym rat," and traversing the countryside on long bicycle rides.

Alexis Licata is survived by her loving partner of over 10 years, Mark Shimkus; her daughter, Laura; her cousin-in-law, Susan Perla; and her college friends, Dean Cilli and Michele Dupey.
