Obituary

Albert (Al) G. Hofbauer, 85, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 3, 2013 after a long illness. Al was born April 24, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served in WW II. Later he joined the reserves and served a year in Korea. Al worked for the city of Detroit as a police officer for 12 years and later for Allstate Insurance for 31 years. In 1972, he was transferred to Kansas City. Al was a member of the V. F. W. and American Legion. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. His greatest joy was his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always put a smile on his face. He will always be remembered for his many years of volunteering at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Al leaves his wife of 60 years, Elinor and four children, Tom, Kathy, Jim and Brian, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Interment will be a private service at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
