Michael Anthony Grey

in-loving-memory

Michael Anthony Grey, 51, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 after a courageous battle with ALS.

Mike was born March 8, 1959 to Ron Grey, Sr. and Shirley Dee Hinkle. After graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1977, Mike followed in his father’s footsteps and began a career in residential construction and quickly became an expert carpenter. Over a 35 year career in construction, Mike built many custom homes and became “the guy” to call when you wanted your home framed by the best.

Within the last few years, Mike enjoyed traveling with his high school and first love and current wife, Julie. He recently built their dreamhome in rural Leavenworth County.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Ron Grey. He is survived by his beloved wife, Julie, his mother Shirley Dee Hinkle, his beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Grey, his “2nd” daughter Britney Shipman and his stepmother, Betty Grey. He is also survived by six brothers; Ron Grey, Jr., Anthony Grey, Lance Grey, Gaylen Grey, Leonard Lewis, Jr., and Patrick W. Hinkle; two sisters, Bernita Gorenflo and Jamie Clark; Uncle Jerry Grey and wife Sandy; Aunts Martha Grey and family, Janice Scruggs and husband Chatten and Delores Haden, in addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A heartfelt thanks is extended to Mike’s “Crew” who provided help and support throughout the last few months. We could not have made it without you. You all have all been amazing; Jeremy, Frankie, Phillip, Marty, Cassie, Kelsey, Tasha, Taffy, Courtney and Chad. A special thanks to Kansas City Hospice House for helping Mike have a comfortable journey to heaven.

Mike will always be remembered for his strong will and work ethic. All who knew and loved him will never forget the impact he had on their lives.

In celebration of Mike’s life, a service will be held from 6 – 9 pm, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Lake of the Forest Club House. For Mike, casual attire and no black, please! In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to help with Mike and Julie’s expenses.
