Maxine Elizabeth Roark Ball
Maxine Elizabeth Roark Ball, died peacefully on September 18, 2013 in her apartment at Kingswood Senior Living Community in Kansas City, Missouri.
Maxine was born August 23, 1926, the only child of the late Max Cecil and Ruth Elizabeth Haddow Roark.
She graduated in May of 1944 from Alma High School, Alma, Kansas. She attended Strickler’s Business College in Topeka, Kansas, until her marriage to John (Jack) Kenneth Ball at Parris Island, South Carolina on July 15, 1945. He preceded her in death January 31, 1993. Maxine was a lifelong Methodist and either worked for or volunteered at churches where she lived in Kansas, Iowa, California and Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wamego, Kansas until her move to Kingswood Senior Living Community. While at Kingswood, Maxine happily enjoyed the company of her many new friends.
Survivors include daughter Shirley Elizabeth Oderkirk and her husband Gerry Grothues, daughter Lynn Ball, and son Kirk Ball. Maxine’s grandchildren are Shimane Elizabeth Hamer, Shonda Oderkirk and her husband Paul Snarski, and Kaelin and Derek Ball. Maxine also has three great-grandchildren: Adam, Kate Elizabeth and Cora Hamer.
At Maxine’s request, there is no service. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to Maxine’s church, First United Methodist Church, 600 Lincoln Street, Wamego, KS 66547.
