Martin (Marty) Stuart Johnson, 58, of Kansas City, MO passed away on November 15, 2016 after a short, courageous battle with cancer.  Marty was born on April 21, 1958 in Hampton, Virginia.  He was predeceased in death by his mother, Ponie Bushnell and step-father Kenneth Bushnell.  He is survived by his loving father and step-mother, Stuart and Jean Johnson of Smithfield, Virginia; sisters Deborah Konack (Rick) of Atlanta, GA, Kathy Schikevitz (Ron) of Overland Park, KS and Shayna Wesselink (Jesse) of Greensboro, NC; step-sisters Lynn Cole (Stan) and Robyn Ness (David) both of Smithfield, VA and step-brother Russell Blackwood (Heidi) of Hatteras, NC; 8 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces/nephews.  

Marty was a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend.  After graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Navy then moved to Florida and began his career in home construction.  At the time of his passing, Marty was a facilities manager for a local hotel in Kansas City, MO where he had many good friends.  

He loved to fish and spend time in the outdoors.   Marty had a unique inquisitive nature and spent much of his free time reading or figuring out how things work, even along the last several weeks of his journey. 

The family expresses its sincere thanks to the support and genuine care provided by the staff and volunteers at Research Hospital and  Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to hospice may be made in Marty’s name to Kansas City Hospice Foundation, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.

Private services will be held at a later date.

    We are cousins although distance and living/working in different states kept us apart for all our adult lives. Marty was loved by his extended family and he will be sorely missed. My condolences to the family.
