Marilynn Jean Spielman

graduation

Marilynn Jean Spielman, age 77, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, January 27, 2021. She was born on Sunday, October 17, 1943, in Valentine, Nebraska to Laurence and Rachel Peterson and was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Valentine High School in 1961. She married Joseph Spielman in March of 1966 and was later divorced in 1987. She lived in Lawrence, Kansas for the past eight years.

Marilynn attended Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri, and graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College in 1991 with an RN/BSN degree. She worked as a nurse, providing care for patients in their homes. Marilynn had a true servant’s heart and cared for so many people during her life. She is survived by her two children, the single most important people in her life, Teresa, age 48, and Eliot, age 45. She loved her children more than anything else in the world, and she dedicated her life to protecting and caring for them. Marilynn is also survived by her children’s families, Teresa’s husband, Tim, and their four children, Lillian, Trenton, Jakob, and Elizabeth, and Eliot’s wife, Becca, and their son, Baxter. Marilynn has helped raise and care for many others, including several of Teresa’s and Eliot’s high school friends, and additional grandchildren, Anna, Grace, and Cole.

Marilynn was known for her tremendous faith and was a member of the Assembly of God church, serving as a pastor’s wife and organist for more than 15 years. She was also an active member of her community and dedicated many hours to community service. Most recently, she served as a Board Member for the Lawrence Anti-Trafficking Taskforce and Education Association (LATTE).
