Laverne Margaret (Kalb) Deay

Laverne Margaret (Kalb) Deay, 78, passed away on July 11, 2013 at the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Baldwin City, Kansas, after a brave battle with lung cancer. She was born on the family farm on July 17, 1934 to Ralph Ingalls and Mary Helen (Breithaupt) Kalb. She graduated from Black Jack Rural Grade School and Baldwin High School; and also attended the University of Kansas.

She married Raymond Deay on January 24, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. They farmed together in the Black Jack area for almost 60 years. Laverne also worked for Armour Garage Door Co. and retired from the Baldwin School District.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years; sister, Dorothy Hallmark of McAllen, TX; daughter, Julie Sullivan of Overland Park; son, Clint Deay of Wellsville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Clark. The family extends their sincere appreciation for the excellent care Laverne received from the staff of both, the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Olathe Medical Center Hospice. Graveside services will be held at 10a.m., July 20, 2013 at the Deay Cemetery, 5 miles south of Eudora, KS on 1061 Highway (Church St.) then East one mile on 800 road.     I am so sorry for you all about losing Laverne. She worked at my school and was an absolutely wonderful person. A very hard worker, sincere and the salt of the Earth, Laverne will be missed by me and all who knew her. May peace flow to all of you like a river. I will indeed miss Laverne!
