Kathleen Tripses


Kathleen Tripses, 89, of Overland Park, KS, formerly of Ankeny, IA, passed into Life Eternal on Dec. 29, 2021. She was a Roosevelt High School, Des Moines, IA, graduate, and Iowa State University, Food Science program, graduate. Kathy was employed by Hormel Corp. in Madison, Wisconsin upon graduation. Kathy married Richard Tripses, of Millersburg, IA. Four children were born to the couple.  

Kathy was a creative and inventive mother of 4, making homemade play dough, sewing children’s clothes, gardening, becoming a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, active in church, camping with her husband and children, attending ball games, and wrestling matches, and always reading. Her activities expanded to employment as the first School Crossing guard on 86th St. in Clive, IA. She was steadfastly present for this job many early mornings, in wind and snow in Iowa winters.  

Returning to school, Kathy graduated with a Medical Technologist degree and worked at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. She advanced to gain her registered Nuclear Medical Technologist designation. Kathy was a presenter of original research in the Medical Technology field. She finished her career working for the State of Iowa laboratory performing Newborn screening tests.  

Kathy was an active member of PEO for many years. Her favorite topics to explore with social groups and by herself, were the Arts, environment, nature, and man’s place in God’s creation. 

Kathy, and her husband Dick, became founding members of the St. Anne’s by the Field Episcopal Church in Ankeny, IA. She served as a Deacon at St. Anne’s, and was deeply committed to serving people through the church. Kathy was an active member of the Third Order of Franciscans. She also regularly volunteered at the Food Bank and at New Horizons Adult Day Care in Ankeny. 

Surviving Kathy are her children, Mike Tripses (Kimi), Joyce Tripses, Patty Raftis (Tom), and Mary Kay Tripses Kurtz (Mark), Grandchildren, Jarin, Samantha, Harper, and Calvin, great-grandchildren, Owen, Elijah, and Iseyah. 

Richard Tripses, Kathy’s husband, preceded her in death. 


The family will hold a private Interment at a later date.
