Kathleen Adams Alshouse

in-loving-memory

Kathleen Adams Alshouse died peacefully at her home in Leawood, KS on 9/24/21 [two days before her 74th birthday] after a 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Kathy grew up in Belton, Mo., and graduated high school there in 1965.  She graduated from MU in 1970 with a master’s degree in library science.  Shortly thereafter she went to work at Linda Hall Library in K.C. and held the position of Development Officer at the time of her retirement in November of 2012- a 42-year career.

She loved traveling, painting folk art, baking and gardening.  As a life-long learner, Kathy was curious about a variety of topics, always seeking opportunities to engage with others and learn more.  Though short in stature, Kathy was long in kindness and compassion for others. In 1980 she married Howard Alshouse, and in 1986 they had their son Sam.

She was preceded in death by her father George Adams, in 1986 and her mother Geneva Shinn Adams, in 2005.  She is survived by her husband Howard, son Sam, sister Diana Davis [husband, Howard] of Topeka Ks, and her brother Wes Adams [wife, Susan] of Smithville Mo.

A private celebration of her life will be held on a date to be announced.  Please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation to fight this insidious disease.

Kathy was a client of mine for 10 years while at Linda Hall Library. She ordered many SWAG items with the LHL logo. I always looked forward to meeting with her and we always had such a great time. I haven’t been in touch with Kathy since 2007, but for some reason, she came into my thoughts this week, so I googled her, only to find out of her passing. To Howard and Sam, we talked about you and she always had such great things to say about the two of you. My prayers are that you find comfort in her memories. She was such a delight. I am very sorry for your loss.

Kathy was a classmate of mine and I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a lovely person. I’m glad she is no longer suffering from that horrid disease. It is just to soon to leave. My prayers go out to her family.

We are so sad to read that Kathy has left us for her eternal life. She was courageous with dealing with Alzheimer for all these years. Howard and Sam, we know you will miss her terribly but hope the memories of her life will help you both during this difficult time.
Our sympathy to you both, Don & Janeane Steiner.
