JoAnn Lansford, 86, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on March 5, 2021. JoAnn was born on October 25, 1934, in Judge, Crawford Township, Osage County, Missouri, to Raymond Melvin and Ada Belmont Ridenhour Lansford, joining older brothers Oris Glenn and Raymond Elston and preceding her twin brother, James Rand by twenty minutes. JoAnn grew up in Belle, Missouri, where she graduated from Belle High School. JoAnn then attended college at Central Missouri State College (now University of Central Missouri), where she joined the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Following graduation from CMSC in 1956, she began a career in education, teaching third grade at Eastwood Hills Elementary School in the Raytown C-2 School District. In 1977, JoAnn received her Master’s degree from what had become CMSU. She retired from teaching in 1994.

JoAnn was a free spirit who delighted in beautiful clothes, great food and wine, the Chiefs, and shopping, particularly at her beloved Country Club Plaza, where she resided at Plaza Point for over twenty years. JoAnn’s life was enriched by her friendships – and countless lunches on the Plaza – with Violet O’Keefe and Marilyn Musterman, both of Lee’s Summit, Mary Nesselrode of Prairie Village, and Jerrian Renfro and Kathy Saxton, both of Independence. She was an avid crossword solver and reader. She was fond of the art of Marc Chagall and, in the 1960s, enjoyed her association with The Circle Theatre and one of its founders, Lois Daniel.

JoAnn was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, her sister-in-law Darline Lansford, and her nephew Kyle Steven Lansford.  She is survived by sisters-in-law Harriett Lansford of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Marillyn Lansford of Kansas City, Missouri; nephews and nieces Douglas Kent Lansford (Vicki) of Round Rock, Texas; Rand Edward Lansford (Marie) of Harrah, Oklahoma; Deborah Sue Lansford of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Lisa Lansford (Kyle) of Missouri City, Texas; Gregory Allen Lansford (Kelly) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Darrell Keith Lansford of Stillwell, Oklahoma; Jeffrey Lee Lansford of Georgia; Cindy Jean Lansford of Jefferson City, Missouri; Marty Wayne Lansford (Missy) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and, Jamie Kathryn Lansford of Kansas City, as well as  numerous grandnephews, grandnieces, and great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

JoAnn’s family is especially grateful to her hospice caregiver, Tom Ott, for his dedication to her care during her last days as well as to the staff of Redwood at Carmel Hills.

I will miss my friend Joann because she was a person to whom you could share good and bad. I can’t tell how many times I just needed some “girl” talk and she was my “go too”. Many times we enjoyed a meal together and a marquerita! She was a good person and may she now rest in peace. Thank you Joann
