Jean Irene Maher

Jean Irene Maher of Belton, Missouri, born January 16, 1927 to Beulah and Emil Thomas in Troy, Kansas, passed peacefully from this life on October 7, 2013.

A graduate of Southeast High School, she spent most of her life in Kansas City and married the love of her life, James E. Maher on October 6, 1946. Jean was a loving homemaker and her house was always welcoming to family and friends, a center of joy and laughter. She retired in 1987 from the Treasury Department.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James, her twin sister, June Etzenhouser and her husband, Earl.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sylvia Maher, her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Fred Abbott, grandsons Jason Maher and Joshua (Jennifer) Maher, granddaughter Andrea (Daniel) Sanchez, great-grandchildren Jacqueline and Isabel Sanchez and Ella Nicole Maher and many dear nieces and nephews.

We thank God for her life, the love of family, friends and the care of the Kansas City Hospice House.

She is greatly missed and will live in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mark, Vickie and families: We want to express our condolences to all of you. We go back a long way in our friendship with your mother, dad, June and Etze with many happy memories. I mistakenly assumed that she had died several years ago when my Christmas cards were returned as undeliverable. I’m sorry that we did not stay in touch through the years. May your many happy memories sustain you at this sad time.
