Jason Ryan McNeel

Jason Ryan McNeel passed away on June 17, 2021.  He was born September 3, 1981, in Ponca City Oklahoma, to James and Frances McNeel. Jason moved with his parents in 1986 to Overland Park, Kansas, where he graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School. He entered the Marine Corps in 2000. He later moved to San Antonio, Texas where he married Kristie McNeel on February 6, 2013, before moving back to Overland Park, Kansas in 2016. He resides in Kansas City, Kansas with his love Brook Wade and her daughter Ariel Roth.

Jason loved music, grilling out with family, playing all sorts of board games, and video games.  He enjoyed kayaking and bonfires at Wyandotte County Lake. As a younger child, Jason enjoyed horseback riding with his Papa and cousins at “Little Creek Horse Ranch”, and trail rides with Papa and Grandpa Randol. He spent many summers in Oklahoma with his Grandma and Grandpa Randol, planting trees, fishing, and helping Grandma in the yard. He spent as much time as he could at the Lake of the Ozarks with Papa and Honey, fishing, swimming, and kneeboarding.

A server by trade, his customers loved him.  He always had a smile for everyone. He always wanted a Bull Mastiff, but found “Buddy Chocolates”, and found a best buddy for life.

His life wish was to own a surf shop on the beach and live in the back. He always said it was “the best of both worlds”.

I have such great memories of Jason. He always had a smile and something funny to say. I had just been out to eat that week and he was our server. Gave us the family discount because he said we were ‘family’. I know he leaves his family with a lifetime of wonderful memories and the pain of his passing far too soon. Much love to all of you.

Damn it seems like the people you would expect to be around all the time are gone to soon Jason was a great friend. Funny, life of the party type of person always with the jokes I think that’s part of the reason we became friends. The memories are what will always come to mind when I hear or see your name. My favorite memory with you is the time you brought edibles to work and neglected to tell everyone what they were at first I had 3………….I’ve never been more hungry than that day lol. Your passing is sad to hear but at the same time I’m grateful to have been friends with you and hope that I leave the type of happy memories with others around me that you left on the people around you. Love you brother Rest easy and keep the angels smiling until I get there

My Love, My Brother My friend! You have always been there for me with a warm smile, a big hug and an open mind. You never judged me or ridiculed me. You never asked me to be more than who I am. You were the best friend and I was lucky to have you. Thanks for loving me with your whole heart. Gone to soon. I still owe you some Gumbo in July. This is crazy! I love you man. You were perfect.

As a neighbor and friend, I had never met a more honest and lovable soul. He was a hard worker and never judge anyone that I knew of. I frequently would smell his grilling next door, which made me want to sneak over and steal his food, but of course never did. His dog, buddy Chocolate was always running over to the fence with the biggest smile, my grand daughter and I loved that dog. They are together again now in heaven. He will be missed
