Helen Ferguson Harper

Helen Ferguson Harper, Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Sweet Life of Shawnee after a long illness. A Memorial Service will be held at Village Presbyterian Church at 2 pm, Saturday, November 17, 2012 with a reception following the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Village Presbyterian Church, Respite Care Ministry or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Helen was born September 10, 1934 in Grand Island, Nebraska, daughter of Robert and Helen Ferguson. She grew up in Lexington, MO and Kansas City, MO and attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and PEO. She was able to spend her time at home raising three children. Helen was known for her love of family and friends and spent many years volunteering at the Kansas City Museum. She had a strong faith in God and loved her church where she was an elder.

Survivors include her husband, Edward, whom she married in 1956, their children, William Harper and wife, Elizabeth of Longmont, CO, Stephen Harper and wife Susan, Fairway, KS and Sarah Sjobakken and husband, Michael of Parker, CO, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her three older brothers.

The family expresses their appreciation to Helen’s caregivers at The Sweet Life of Shawnee and Odyssey Hospice. They were a gift from God during the last part of her life.
