Harlan Eugene Fanning

Harlan Eugene Fanning, 72, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away September 23, 2013 at his home.

He was born January 13, 1941 in Red Wing, Minnesota to Gene and Shirley Fanning. On February 9, 1962 he was united in marriage to Kathy Martin. He retired from Shawnee Mission School District in 2004.

Harlan was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Yeamans, his father and mother-in-law, Grover and Gracie Martin and his brother-in-law, Marvin Martin. Harlan is survived by his wife, Kathy, his father and step-mother, Gene and LaVerne Fanning, his step-father, Dale Yeamans II, his sons Blake and wife Roxanne and Steve and wife Krissie, eight grand children, Adam and Katie Fanning, Beth Fanning, Nathan Fanning, Jessica and Steven Knight, Samantha Shuster and Scott Shuster, and seven great-grandchildren, Emery, Eli, Taylor, Owen, Danika, Hudson and Austin. He is also survived by his brothers, Darwin Fanning, Rick Fanning, Randy Fanning and Dell (Pete) Yeamans III, his sisters, Pam Yates, Terry Moppin and Shawn Yeamans, sister-in-laws, Joann and husband William Dusenburry and Wilma Martin along with many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

A Celebration of Harlan’s Life will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church, 9135 Haskins, Lenexa, KS 66215 followed by a reception at Shawnee Presbyterian Church, 6837 Nieman Road Shawnee, KS 66203.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers you make donations to Shawnee Presbyterian Church.

    Harlan is my cousin and I say is because his spirit is still alive in heaven with our Lord.

    Harlan was always happy and smiling. My prayers are with Kathy, Blake, Steven, Harlan’s parents, sisters, brothers and all of his Grand and Great Grandchildren.

    He will be missed.

    Thank you so much for everything I’ll miss you. And don’t worry mom will be taken care of.
    And thank you for showing me its ok to be a kid no matter how old you get. I’ll always remember the lincoln log wars we had.
