Guy Robert Smith
Guy Robert Smith, 76, of Gardner, Kansas, died August 5, 2011 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Guy was born March 29, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska, the youngest of three sons of Ruth McKenzie and Frank Blair Smith. He graduated from Omaha Central High and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His long career in accounting included positions with a number of firms in the Omaha area, including Corey-McKenzie Company, Mutual of Omaha, and the State of Nebraska. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1985 and worked as an insurance examiner for the state of Kansas until his retirement.
Bob loved his girls, food, all dogs, babies, cars, all music, especially gospel, flannel shirts, board and card games, PUNS, and Spike Jones. He was a good, patient, loyal, fun loving man.
He is survived by his wife, Carol K Smith, Gardner, Kansas, his brother Frank Smith, California, and his four daughters, Mary Axen, Omaha, Nebraska, Margaret Mullett, Spring Hill, Kansas, Martha Fichman, Spring Hill, Kansas and Ruth Berger, Mission, Kansas, his three grandchildren, Megan Axen Simon, Hannah Rucker, and Makenzie Berger, and his three great-grandchildren Elaina, Jacob, and Ava Ewing.
A service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 20 at St Aidens Episcopal Church 14301 South Black Bob Road in Olathe, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
