George M. Wolf

George Maurice Wolf, born October 16, 1937 in Wichita, Kansas to Lucille (Law) and Maurice Wolf, passed away September 8, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House. George graduated from Wichita High School East in 1956, Wichita State University in 1961, and the University of Colorado Law School in 1964. He began his career at Hallmark Cards and later owned and operated businesses in Louisburg, KS. George practiced law in Johnson County for more than 20 years ultimately ending his career as Director of Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution for the Kansas State Dept. of Administration.

Survivors include his wife, Nan, of the home; son, Michael, Overland Park; daughter, Katie Steward and son-in-law, Corey Steward, Wichita; Mike and  Katie’s mother, Nellie Wolf, Overland Park, 5 grandchildren, Corey, Carly, Cassidy, Casey and Calvin Steward of Wichita; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and David Anderson, Wichita; nephews, Bradley Anderson, Andover, KS, and David Urban, Wichita, and their families. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Red Cross or Kansas City Hospice House.

Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS (913- 438-6444).

    Nan, sorry to get the news about George—I have never met you, but you have probably heard my name. We go back a long way, as classmates, teammates in our ball playing days. Heck, we have done many things together and I knew his family well. The pic in the paper, had George beginning to look like Dutch. He was a classy guy with a million dollar smile. I am getting the word around to our mutual friends. Will be thinking about all of the family tomorrow and my prayers are with you and Susie and all. Back in our playing days, they called George and I the Big 2—He was the left hander and I the right. We won many a games together. I guess we just lost a big one last weekend. God Bless!! Jackie Lee
