Franklin Howard Blackburn
Franklin Howard Blackburn, age 67, left his earthly home for his Heavenly one on Sunday, October 11, 2015 succumbing to cancer.
Born in Beckley, West Virginia on February 22, 1948 to Warren Hardin Blackburn and Doris Ann McClung-Blackburn, Frank was a 1967 graduate of Linwood High School in Linwood, Kansas. He attained the rank of Sargent E-4 in the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War Era as an Engine Mechanic. A longtime resident of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Frank spent his last years in Plainview, Arkansas. Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years Ruby Grantz-Blackburn.
He is survived by his brother Richard Blackburn and wife Donna, Independence, Missouri, children James Blackburn and Stacy Blackburn-Mooney, Lawrence, Kansas, his step-children Kay Meints-Knight, Gold Bar, Washington, Jeannie Meints-Plake and spouse Brian Plake, McLouth, Kansas, Kenneth Meints and spouse Melanie, Bonner Springs, Kansas, Marvin Meints and spouse Pam, Eudora, Kansas and brother-in law Larry Grantz, Murfreeboro, Arkansas. Frank had 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Among Frank’s many occupations he is most noted for his years of over-the-road truck driving and his years as a janitor at the Basehor-Linwood School District. He was an avid fisherman, loved to talk and had amazing woodworking skills.
Frank’s final resting place will be in Aly, Arkansas beside his wife and karaoke partner, Ruby. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family thanks the physicians, nurses and care givers of the Fayetteville, Arkansas VA Hospital who cared for Frank during his last weeks preceding his trip home for his final days at Olathe Hospice House.
