Erma S. Garretson

in-loving-memory

Erma S. Garretson, 96, passed away January 12, 2011 at Overland Park Place. She was born on June 26, 1914 in Salem, Iowa and after graduating from high school, she married her school sweetheart, Owen L. Garretson, who later became a nationally known petroleum industry executive. His career gave their family the opportunity to live in and enjoy many parts of the country including Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

After her husband of 69 years died, Erma moved to Overland Park in 2003 to be close to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Leon of Houston, Texas, her daughter Susan Gattis of Mission Viejo, California, her grandson Cory Garretson of Overland Park and her great-grandson, Zachery Garretson of Lenexa.

Erma is survived by her sister Betty Hammond of Paradise Valley, Arizona, her sons John of Middleton, Idaho and Don of Mission, Kansas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, Corey Garetson, of Merriam.

Erma was a world class puzzle master and enjoyed working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles everyday. She also enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends three times a week at Overland Park Place.

She has requested cremation. A family memorial service will be held at a later date by her family in Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice. The family also thanks the Comfort Keepers at Overland Park Place and the medical staff of Crossroads Hospice for their professional and caring support.
