Doris Crawford

Born in  West Monroe, LA, August 15, 1946 to Savella Crawford Carter, Doris Crawford was a beloved friend and a perpetual student. After her high school graduation in May, 1964, from West Monroe’s Richardson High School, Doris continued her education with a move to Kansas City where she acquired a Bachelor’s Degree for business administration from the University of Missouri, 1981. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in public affairs from Park College in 1994. Doris’s favorite classes were in the small group bible studies at St. James United Methodist Church, KC, MO.

Doris loved her St. James family deeply. A member since January 10, 2000, she participated in United Methodist Women, was a faithful choir member, studied with the Committed to Christ Growth Group Bible Study, served in Betty Lou’s Clothes Closet, and enjoyed Just Older Youth (JOY).  Before joining St James, Doris was a long time and active member of the Bethel AME Church in Kansas City.  She was a member of the Voices of Bethel choir (best church Gospel Choir in Kansas City at that time,) the Allenites (Women’s group), and the Bethel Women’s Praise Team.

Doris is preceded in death by her mother, Savella Carter, her sister, Louise Crawford, and brother, Bobby R. Wright.

Doris leaves behind nieces, nephews and cousins, three close friends, Dot, Toni, and Jane. Plus many, many friends of her beloved St. James family.

The Celebration of Life for Doris Crawford will take place at a later date, at St. James United Methodist Church, 5540 Wayne Avenue, KCMO, with the interment immediately following the service at Powell Gardens.
