Donald H. Day
Donald H. Day, 89, of Kansas City, MO passed away September 23, 2010 at his home. Don was born April 5, 1921 in Williams, Iowa to Clarence and Daisy Trent Day. Don received his early education in Blairsburg and later in the Clearfield, Iowa area. He received his Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from Finley Engineering College (now DeVry University). He was a professor at Maplewoods Community College where he was head of the Electronics Department remaining there until he retired at the age of 70. After retiring, Don taught one or two classes per week part time until he was 75. He had a passion for restoring older cars and was still working on a 1972 Maserati at the time of his death.
He married Enid Barnes June 22, 1941 and they were divorced in 1956. Don married Wilma Ayres Stogsdill on April 17, 1958.
Don was preceded in death by daughter, Bonnie Dwyer, his parents, brothers Vernon and Leland and his sisters Thelma Huber and Lila Huntsman. and is survived by his wife of 52 years Wilma, children Theadore (Carolyn), Reginald (Linda), Patricia (William) Pearson, and Preston (Gayle) Stogsdill. Also surviving him is his brother Darwin Day, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at North Cross United Methodist Church, 1321 NE Vivian Rd., Kansas City, MO on Monday, Sept 27, 2010 at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North Care Hospice, 2900 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City MO 64116.
