Dean L. Faulkender
Dean L. Faulkender, 85, Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully December 3, 2015. He was born September 4, 1930 to Walter and Gladys Faulkender, growing up in Leonardville, Kansas. In 1949, Dean graduated from Leonardville Rural High school.
Being an honored veteran of the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Naval academy in San Diego, California In 1951. After serving time in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Dean was assigned to the USS Coral Sea and was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class for the VF-103 Jolly Rogers Strike Fighter Squadron. He was very proud of his service to his country.
Dean attended Kansas State University. During his education, he met the love of his life, Shirley Kemnitz. They were married November 20, 1956 in Manhattan, Kansas. Dean graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. After obtaining experience by several firms in a few different towns, he started his own Dean L Faulkender & Associates Architectural business in Kansas City. Over the years, Dean worked with many respectable engineers, builders and associates. Everyone who worked with him valued his commitment to his clients and dedication to his designs.
Dean lived a long fulfilling life. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening and many family vacations to Colorado. He and Shirley had many adventures in their retirement years. They traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and multiple places across the United States.
Dean was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Erickson and brothers Walter Reed Faulkender and Kay Don Faulkender, and beloved son Todd Faulkender. He is survived by his sister Nancy (Clauson) Martin, his dearly loved wife, Shirley of 59 years; daughters Janice (Chris) Salisbury, Jill (Dannie) Thompson, grand-daughters Diana (Chris) Clemmons, Amanda Salisbury, Andrea Faulkender, Christina Faulkender, grand-sons Dannie Thompson, Dylan Thompson, and great-grandson Javin Faulkender.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 11, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7500 Oak Street, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, we love you and will miss you very much.
