Colleen Naylor Grothe (September 2, 1935 – April 4, 2022) She passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Colleen lived a beautiful, dignified life. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. She was the ultimate party planner, Wife, Mom, and Grandmother.

She was fortunate to have met her husband, Earl, later in life, but enjoyed over 18 years together.  Together, they enjoyed retirement while sharing their love of travel, dancing, cooking together and entertaining.

Colleen was born in Washington, Indiana and graduated from Franklin College prior to marrying her high school sweetheart, Donald Naylor.  They traveled the world while she followed Don through his lifelong professional Army career.   She lost her first love to cancer while they were only 56 year old.

She never intended to move to Kansas City; however, her daughter, Lori was living in Kansas City when Don passed away and it was a place for her to go settle in for little time until she figured out what she would do next.  She became the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Nelson Atkins Art Museum, which she held this position for over 10 years and retired at the age of 70.  She loved this position and all of the people she met throughout her time at the Museum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gladys Tolson and her siblings, Robert Tolson (Joyce), Marilyn Smith, Judy Deal (George).  She is survived by her husband, Earl Grothe, son, Don Naylor II (Diane), daughter – Lori Foerster (Brad) and a blended family to include daughters, Ali Martin (Stan) Meriwynn Mansori and Theresa Shetty (Atma).  Along with grandchildren – Ali Bragg (Matt), Alexander Naylor (Tyler), Holly Cerull, Chelsey Foerster, Grady Foerster (Chelsea), Dustin Foerster,  Zoe Martin, Jonah Martin, Mira Mansori, Nadia Mansori, Sahira Shetty and Great grandchildren – Jameson, Owen, Brody, Bryson, and Brinley.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Colleen Saturday, May 21st at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church,  9300 Nall Avenue, Overland Park to celebrate her life. Lunch will be served at the conclusion of the service.
