Bobby Lawrence DePoortere

Bob L. DePoortere, 79, peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2011 at his home in Independence, Missouri. 
 
Bob was born May 31, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri, son of Gerard Joseph and Pansy Mae DePoortere. He grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School and the University of Kansas City. Bob was drafted into the US Navy and served 4 years of active duty in Korea. He received the Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals. He began his dedicated career as an engineer in 1956 with Kansas City Power and Light and retired in 1997. Bob loved golfing, bowling, woodworking and photography and excelled at all of the things he took an interest in. 
 
He will be greatly missed by his family; Nancy and Alan White, Alaina Gibson, Andrea Tuso, Brendan Marshall, Sherry Brennan, Fred and Susie Watson, as well all of his friends and neighbors.
 
There will be a Memorial Service held at the New Salem Baptist Church located at 1805 N. Blue Mills Road, Independence, Missouri  64058 on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 1:00pm,  immediately followed by a graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bob L. DePoortere Tribute Fund at the Alzheimer’s Association website (alz.org).
