Richard Douglas Hammond

Doug Hammond, 51 of Leawood, Kansas passed away January 24, 2017 at home.  He was born Richard Douglas Hammond on March 17, 1965 to Paula and John Hammond and is survived by his two daughters Ashley and Jessica, and three brothers, Will, Russ, and Ken.

Doug was a graduate of Pembroke Country Day School in 1983.  In his youth, he was an avid hunter and two sport lettermen in basketball and baseball.  He continued his basketball career while attending Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas.

Doug had a zest for life and conversation.  He had the ability to connect with anyone that he met and usually evoked a smile, if not a laugh.  His larger than life and competitive personality lent itself to sales.  At one time, he became one of the largest salesmen in the country of Gildan, Hanes, and Knights Apparel t-shirts.  Family, friends, and business associates will remember Doug for his “zeal for the deal” and as an avid Chiefs, Royals, and Jayhawk basketball fan.

A celebration of life will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday February 3rd at 12705 Ash Street, Leawood, Kansas 66209.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the National Parkinson Foundation.

Doug, I will miss your good natured spirit and relentless pursuit of the deal. I am proud to have called you my friend. Your time with us was too short. Knowing you were fighting health issues, hopefully you have now found peace. Rest in peace my friend. You will be sorely missed.

    Billy, Kenny & Rusty:
My Mother (Maxine Morgan) informed me about Doug’s death. I am so sorry to hear this news. She also provided me with this link or otherwise I would be unable to express my condolences. I want to let each of you know that you and Doug’s two daughters are in my thoughts and prayers. No doubt this is a very difficult time for each of you. As you know my father died at a very young age (40) so I can somewhat appreciate the shock and various emotions each of you are experiencing. Please give my best to all and I pray that the Creator of the universe (Jesus Christ) and what He has done for each of us who believe in Him is a great comfort to each of you. Best Regards, Jim Morgan
