Howard Newton Sloan
Newt Sloan, 64, of Independence, MO passed away at 12:40 pm, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at his home.
Newt was born September 7, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bill Brown, daughter and son-in-law Jamie and Sean Fisher, son Jason Howard Sloan and daughter-in-law Gina and son Steven Sloan. He also leaves his brother Neal and Jennifer Sloan of Cameron, MO., sister Chris and husband Chuck Keller of Kansas City, MO., sister Vickie and husband Bill Harris, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four nephews, two nieces, great nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Mary Cincotta. Newt was preceded in death by his wife Vickie, mother and step-father Jane and Don Sifers, brothers Mike and Kelly Sloan.
Newt served in the U.S. Navy from August 1971 – December 1972, during the Viet Nam war. He was a steel worker. Newt enjoyed playing pool, bowling and had a passion for all sports. He kept his sense of humor even through his long struggle with medical and health issues. Most of all he loved family.
Newt’s wishes were to be cremated. In honor of his service to his country, his cremated remains will be taken to sea by the US Navy.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, April 2, 2017 at Shambaugh-Cope Cemetery in Weatherby, Missouri where Newt’s wife Vickie, mother and step-father, two brothers a niece, Molly are interred.
