Betty Joan Winger, 83, Overland Park, KS passed away on June 3, 2013 at Overland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 25, 1929 in Ironton, OH to Mary and John Gannon. After graduation from Kitts Hill High School, Betty came to Kansas City in late 1947 and worked for the Fox Theater group at several area movie theaters. She met and married her husband, Charles Darrel Winger, a World War II veteran, in January 1951. Their only child, David S. Winger was born in September 1952. Betty left the work force to care for her son, but returned to work in the 1960’s, first, for the classified advertising department of the Kansas City Star and later doing retail housewares sales for Macy’s in Mission, KS and then worked at the Mission Hy-Vee grocery store. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel in 2002.
Betty Joan is survived by her son David and his wife Briana of Overland Park; sisters, Glenna Plymale, Grove City, OH, Jean Freier of Fairborn, OH, Lois Sites, Ironton, OH and her brothers, Harold and Ronald Gannon of Ironton, OH and their families. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
